Went to Halki for the first time yesterday. Took a few shots as we tied up then one whilst waiting for what turned out to be an excellent lunch in a waterfront taverna. Seems the speciality, which is ideal for vegetarians, is Halki Pasta. Home-made pasta done with finely chopped and fried onions. Add one Mythos = paradise!

John was that your first time to Halki, or the first this year.
ReplyDeleteWe have been 3 times so far
First ever visit. But I'll be there every Friday except one this season from now on. Beautiful place. And they have no newspapers!!
ReplyDeleteMucho jealous John!!!!! Havent been to Halki for sooooo long. My friend Catherine is there at the moment to open up her house for the season, she didnt have time to call down to see us! Prhaps we can all go together at the end of the season!.......Victoria xx
ReplyDeleteNever been, really want to go..........especially after your recommendation. We tried at the beginning of May but the inclement conditions at sea meant that the ferry captain said NO!

Funnily enough (re Victoria's comment) your hubby recommended to a nice couple who have one of the White Houses of Lardos that they read my Ramblings. Last night they made themselves known to me at Rhodes Rock and told me about Catherine. Is her house just to the left of the clock tower? I said I'd try and look her up. If you can arrange to go on a Friday (the 11 o'clock sailing from Kamiros Skala), we'll be on the same boat (I do the TUI excursion now).
ReplyDeleteThe couple (forgot their names, sorry) were very nice. They even bought the first book, "Feta Compli!" from me, since I just happened to have a new copy about my person (hey, I know all the tricks!). So they must be nice people, mustn't they!!!
John,
ReplyDeleteWe keep saying we must go to Halki - it seems much more accessible now than it was a few years ago. Seeing as we will be on a Thomson Package in August we may finally get to meet you.
Cheers,
Dave.
PS. Jo says she'll only make the trip if you can confirm that Halki doesn't have its own version of the Symi Spiders!! (Yes, she followed your link to the pictures and now wishes she hadn't!!)
Can't say about the spiders, but I haven't seen any!! Will keep you posted!!
ReplyDeleteSome stunning classic island photography John, very emotive.
ReplyDeleteHalki every Friday sounds like a tough job but I guess someone has to do it! I'll think about you making that trip out now on Fridays.
I will be posting on the old days on holiday in Lindos shortly.
Andy, where can I read about holidays in Lindos in 'the old days' ? We started going to Rhodes on the strength of my dad's tales of visiting in 1960's!

PS Sorry to hijack your board John!
Their names are Kevin and Judy...and they are halki-addicts just like us! My friends villa is called Kazeropi just behind the church! I dont see any way that we would be able to go in the season :( maybe end of October if I am lucky!
ReplyDeleteVicki, not posted it yet but it will be on in a couple of days. My blog is at www.pruningsfromthevines.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteIt is not as good as Johns blog but I try my best.....
Mainly about life in France it covers all sorts of other nostalgic rubbish and reminiscences including music, cars, recipes and the good old days?
Sorry John, I'll go now.
thank you Andy. Sorry John also!

Actually, Vicki, Andy's far too modest about the quality of his site.
ReplyDeleteAs for you, well, I'm never talking to you again!! (until next time I see you!!!!) :)
